January is commemorated as National Glaucoma Awareness Month. This is a timely celebration as 2.7 million people more than 40 years old in the United States suffer from glaucoma. According to the National Eye Institute, the figure will increase to 4.2 million by 2030, a 58 percent increase.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness. Unfortunately, glaucoma does not manifest any symptoms so the vision lost is permanent. As such, it is important for all of us to take care of our eyes to prevent glaucoma. Here are some tips on taking care of our eyes:
Eat And Live healthy
The eyes require Vitamin A and beta carotene. These nutrients are found in personalized foods such as fruits and vegetables. Eating healthy food may slow down macular degradation and cataract progression.
Wear Protection When Necessary
