Today’s youth is at risk from the different social menace prevailing in society. Drug addiction, rape, divorce, child abuse, to name just a few, can endanger the future of the young people. As such, having youth mentors is important in molding them into productive individuals. Here are some tips on how you can be an effective youth mentor:
Keep An Open Mind
As a youth mentor, you will be handling kids with different issues. As such, you need to be open minded when mentoring these young kids. You should learn to be an active listener.
As mentioned, the youth you will be handling have experienced difficulties and hardships at certain points in their lives. As a youth mentor, it is your job to give them a pat in the back for doing a good job. If it will help, you can give them personalized recognition products to keep them reminded of their effort.
Define Your Goal
Like in all things, you should also define your goals when mentoring youth. It is not enough to take out customized pencils and write your objectives and purpose on personalized notebooks (See samples). Examine your thoughts and beliefs and use that to drive your plans in motion.
Get the Community Involved
Youth mentoring is everyone’s responsibility so it is your job to make sure that there is community involvement. For example, you can get the leaders finance a youth mentoring program in your area. You can hand out portfolio promotional items to enable parents to understand the importance of the program. You can take advantage of the best business promotional items in order to communicate to the community your noble goal.
The youth is the “future” of the world hence it is the job of the adults to protect them from any potential risks that they may face.
